Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Greetings in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ, the Nane of Bethlehem.

For the past several months, we have enjoyed the freedom in our worship and fellowship to exercise a mask-optional policy for all fully vaccinated members, maintaining the requirement that those not fully vaccinated against the COVID virus continue masked. We have also been aware that a time might come when certain restrictions would need be reimposed as necessary protective measures. That time has come.

COVID and its variants continue to wreak havoc upon our communities. This could increase as family and friends, neighbors and even strangers gather to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Omicron variant is especially contagious and, although its symptoms may not be as severe as previous infections, this new strain poses a serious threat - even to fully vaccinated individuals. Therefore, in agreement with the guidance of our Bishop and District President, Rev Dr Derek G Lecakes, the following measures are being adopted in compliance with the New York State Mask Mandate, put into effect on Monday, 13 December 2021:

  1. Everyone, fully vaccinated or not, must wear a mask to enter our facilities.
  2. These masks will be worn throughout our worship, covering both nose and mouth, and removed only when receiving the elements of the Lord's Supper.
  3. Sunday Fellowship Hour, and the final mid-week Advent Soup Supper/Bible Study will be held. Masks must be worn during these fellowship opportunities, and removed only while seated and eating/drinking.
  4. Social Distancing is strongly encouraged.

These measures are temporary. The Governor has stated that their effectiveness will be reviewed on or about 15 January and, if the tide of COVID and its variants has lessened, will be removed. Please share these provisions with family and friends who may be joining you for the joyous worship of Christmas, which we will celebrate both in praise for the gift of the Christ Child and the salvation He brings, as well as in prayer that this time of trial would soon pass by God's good grace. A copy of Bishop Lecakes's letter to the pastors of the District concerning this most recent response to COVID is attached for your review.

God bless you all.
